sadly, eye infection hannah B is getting worse. Last night she cried a lot and even had a slight fever. Sangat heartbreaking to see your child in such pain and discomfort. Times like this, I really wish the husband is around. To be honest, Im angry that he's not here with us (sangat negative punya statement, coz I know he's working, but I cant help the way I feel kan)
Bangun pagi tadi, she couldnt open her eyes which were encrusted with taik mata. Sedih tengok her watery, red, swollen eyes. Thankfully she wasnt fussy in the car. Dropped her off at Opah, rushed to work. After class and some paperwork, went to pick her up to visit the doctor. Doctor confirmed that she has conjunctivitis and prescribed some oinment and eyedrops.
Visiting the clinic alone without the husband makes me very sad. IT got worse when a boy startled her and she started scream-crying (iya, she is a very crier). Later when i went to pay the bill and take the medication. she fussed a bit. Handbag jatuh, ubat pun jatuh when I tried to steady my grip on her. Nasib baik nurses and some other patient was kind enough to help. At that time, I grumbled again on how mean the Husband is for not being here for us (I fell guilty later for the negativity). Walaupun rasa sangat pathetic and pitiful at that time, later I felt such pride in myself for the ability to juggle all this. (ayat memujuk diri sendiri sebab takde orang lain yang nak pujuk/puji).
The only good thing to come out of this is doctor gave me MC so I could care for her at home today. Perasaan menjaga baby sendiri adalah sangat membahagiakan. To hold and cuddle her. To wipe her watery eyes. Playtime adalah sangat heaven. Syukur Alhamdulillah, tho she's uncomfortable, she doesnt seem to be in pain ans is very active as usual.
Besides the meds, Im also dabbing/squirting some breastmilk into her eyes. Insya Allah either method would make my daughter well again. Cepat sembuh baby, we have a busy weeekend coming!
No pics coz adalah sangat mensayukan saya untuk memandang mata merah yang sepet itu.

The day she turns 4 months
Happy 4 months old, hannah baby!!!
Somehow, she went through a growth spurt in the last couple of weeks. She's huge!!! Well, maybe not huge, but super tembam okay. Those thighs - KFC drumsticks okay! rasa cam nak ngap ngap je!
Diapers dah move on to size M, just a few of her Mami Poko S sizes to finish off. She drinks more often these days, about 4oz on average for each feeding.
Milk production has improved Alhamdulillah. Not sure whether is coz I'm more rajin to pump or because of the shaklee supplement that Im currently trying out.
Sadly, she contracted some eye infection from another baby at Opah's house. Poor Has a swollen red left eye. Luckily, the infection hasnt affected her happy spirits. She was an absolute darling last night.
Some hannah facts:
- can play by herself now, for as long as 15 minutes, or as short as 15 seconds! She loves her Lamaze dragonfly, as well as the little anakku monkey with the vibrating tail. the teether works sometimes but most of the times, she just wears it like a bangle.
- she can 'talk' now. and wow what a talker she is. loud, animated and very engaging. I love how expressive her eyes get and how she leaps upwards as if trying to emphasis a certain point.
- baby has mild eczema :( . Poor her. Skin red and very dry.Especially around the face, neck inner elbow and inner knee. She loves scratching. I tried putting on mittens to discourage her but it seems she knows how to scratch with mittens or. She has also mastered the art of shrugging the mittens off. Oh, when it comes to skills like this, baby saya memang genius. She has this smug face of satisfaction when she succeeds in scratching. Sangat annoying okay but it makes me so sad to see how miserable she is when she's itchy but cant scratch herself.
- baby knows how to put her hand in her mouth. and she loves it there. and she loves nuzzling to other people, n slowly putting hands/nose/cheek in her mouth jugak. I once caught her sucking Uncle Aiman's fingers while he fell asleep in front of the tv. and i was thinking how well-behaved she is when she's with her uncle. At least she knew to put the hand down the moment mommy caught her in the act.
- she recognizes my voice now. She'll stop whatever she's doing to stare at me. If she's in a good mood, she'll give me a smile. If she's in attention-deficit mode, she'll start her Oscar winning diva cry. Which works all the time. tugs at my heartstrings, how can anyone refuse to pick her up at that sweet (annoying?) sound. hehehe
- favourite development which i realised last week (1.6.2011). She recognizes her mommy's voice, she'll turn towards me , give me a smile and raise her arms up asking me scoop her up. Such a diva! And again, how could I ever refuse...
- did I mention the weight gain? so chubby, so huggable. Sangat best sleeping with her at night. at this size where she's not so fragile. Snuggling up to her at night and waking up to her stretching and smiling ...aaaaahhh highlight of my day. :))

unwell mommy = unhappy baby
woke up yesterday with a congested nose. by breakfast i was feeling pain each time i swallow food. Bad timing for me to get flu/fever. Since the husband left last week, Ive been extra attentive to Hannah baby so that she would not be that affected by her ayah's absence. Its been working too, she was so well behaved during our weekend family day outing in Cherating.
As precaution, I've been extra careful not be kissing and cuddling her too much. I dont want het to get infected. Poor baby is too young to take any medication. Staying away is much easier said than done. Time and time again, I catch myself kissing her or about to do so. Sigh, its so hard to break away from something that has been my daily routine for the past 2 1/2 months.
I think she can sense this co she threw a tantrum (twice!) yesterday. first, after her evening shower, where she cried til she fell asleep in my arms. and later around 10pm. Again she was only pacified when she was exhausted. I gave her her night feeding and she fell asleep while I rocked her in the rocking chair. She woke up briefly around 11.30 for a short 'conversation', flashing me a few smiles, as if trying to reassure her worried mom that everything is okay.
Its times like these that I wish the husband is around. Yes, Im coping well alhamdulillah but having a partner around would make things much more managable and less worrying.

The one on the buaian
The thing about Hannah B is that she was born a crier. Natural Born Crier. Yes, from day 1 she has amazed (or is it scared us sleepless???) us with her ability to cry very loudly, in a high pitched tone too! The kind of crying that tugs at your heartstrings coz she sounds so sad or as if she's in pain when in reality, there is no reason or explanation for her crying. Maybe its just her way totell us that she needs (more of) our attention. Well, when the mom is a drama queen, its not that surprising that her lil princess would be an attention seeking baby diva kan.
Many have given unwanted but well-intentioned advise of buying her a buai. It'll make it easier to put her to sleep and she'll sleep longer. On the downside, usage of buai can cause a baby to refuse to sleep without it, causing hassle when the family is travelling or away from home. For 2 and a a half months, we have resisted taking the easy way out. Biarlah, having to put up with hours of rocking, cradling sleepless nights. I did not want my daughter to sleep a buaian. Another part of me feels like its bad parenting. Like Im too tired/busy to spend time putting my child to sleep. Let her lie in the monstrous looking thing until she falls asleep.Admittedly, another reason for my extreme dislike of the buaian is the fact that it is so hugely ugly, My feelings would probably change if a cute design was ever made.
About 2 weeks ago, we visited a relative of the Husband so that I could get my swollen wrist massaged by his uncle. Its been bugging me for months, during pregnancy lagi. While waiting, they suggested to put Hannah B into the buaian as mommy's lil angel decides to show her 'talent' right there. Bayangkan okay, she was super sweet the whole journey, and just as we reach the Pakcik's house, she started crying(screaming?) at the top of her lungs. Not to be thought of as rude or stubborn, I relented. Hannah B had her first buaian nap, and true to word, she slept for over 3 hours. peaceful deep sleep.
Once we got home, the husband said, we should get a buaian. We're about to start working and we need the rest and sleep. Lagipun, the lady who will be taking care of her also requested that we provide a buaian for her. I was very reluctant. But 2 more nights of difficult night sleeping got us to Manjaku where our initial ;surveying' trip resulted in us coming home with a buai for my baby angel.
But til now, she resists being in it, which somehow comforts me. She'll only agree to be put in the buai once we've put her in a state of half sleep. where the eyes or barely open and she has been cradled/rocked for quite some time. I love the fact that she prefers falling to sleep in my arms rather than that mostrous steel thingy, just like she prefers direct feeding as compared to EBM in a bottle. Maybe its just me, needing to feel needed by her. Hannah B, if you only know how much mommy loves you.
admittedly, she sleeps much better in the buaian and we only use it if and when she refuses to sleep on the bed with us. Usually she sleeps in the buaian, wakes up around 4am for feeding and continues sleeping in the bed til morning
p/s - as part of my buaian protest, I refuse to use the thing, resulting in the husband taking on the putting her to sleep duty.

Day 75
Am typing in the dark, while putting Hannah B to sleep.A feeling so heavenly, watching your child go from sleepy faced to sound asleep. From cranky restlessness to peaceful sighs. She sighs a lot while asleep. As if she'x crrying the burdens of the world when in reality the only concern she should have is when will i get my next meal or will mommy force me to sleep in the buai again???
Back to her developments, no significant changes in the past week. She still is showing off her raising the head skills and she's conversing more too. Mostly its tngue language with her dad which she gets very excited about. feeling left out from this father-daughter bonding,, I decided to create my own special language, which mainly consists of making brrrrbrrr sounds with my lips. Hannah B tries to imitate, but up til now she's only succeeded in spewing out more saliva bubbles... I just hope she doesnt mistake the sounds for encouragement to be a Belieber! No justin bieber crushes please...

Day 67
Yesterday, she surprised us with her first partial rollover, (she was on her tummy, she lifted her head, and while looking at me, she tilted her head, and...turned. Such a moment, Im so proud of her tiny steps of developments. I wish I could document every moment of her life.
Today, when feeding from the bottle (EBM - 3 oz per feeding), she actually knew when to stop. She just stopped sucking, looked at me and pushed the bottle away with her hand. And I noticed that she can anticipate when its feeding time. If I put her in my lap, she gets excited and will tilt her head towards my boob.
Hannah B was in good spirits today. Lots of thoughtful stares, lots of head lifting. As a reward for her good behaviour, and maybe to cure our own boredom, we took her on her first park visit. She started of very excited, staring at the green trees. She spit out milk twice, got milk on my hijab and shirt, got irritated after 20 minutes and we ended up running back to the car when it started to rain. Oh, by that time, she was screaming her lungs out. And again, her loud cries got a lot of attention from passer-bys. Im starting to get really annoyed with their ' what bad parents you are coz your baby is crying'. I wish I could tell them that she's not always this scary. Anyway, its what babies do, they cry. Hannah B just takes it to the next level with her super high pitched, attention grabbing voice. Just as we reached the car, the crying stopped, she gave me a sigh and started nudging towards my breast. she slept the whole way back home.

Day 40
Hannah B turns 40! which means my pantang will end in 4 more days. sangat eagerly anticipated. New development, Hannah now dah pandai appreciate toys, she can stare captivated by the hanging mobile on her playpen, which sadly is gray n brown. sangat tidak visually stimulating kan...but what to do. Being practical, we chose to get the gender-neutral playpen so it can be used for her future siblings. Hannah also dah start responding to lights. She loves staring at the ceiling lights and also the tv when her atok or her uncles tengok sports. Setakat ni, her fave is badminton and football, which I think is due to the green court. Lepas ni we test tengok golf pulak k B. You might just fall asleep from boredom tho...hehehe.
Some pics taken by Mommy Soo. she looks more and more like her ayah by the day. Insya Allah, he'll be returning in 3 weeks.

| Hannah B smiling at her toys. She looks so much like her Ayah, I'm starting to get jealous. I mean, as her main caregiver, you'd think she'd at least look 20% like me!!! |
